Olavsøka

The festival of Saint Olav. If only he still live on. I am very sure he is turning in his grave everytime the faroese celebrate their national day. Drunken people roam the streets for two days and nights in their very very very expensive ( believe me, it cost minimum 40,000kroner if you can do some of it yourself to save money) traditional faroese costume. That's my version. Ofcourse there is another version to it. There are different ways of celebrating this days. Some goes to church. Some goes to a strings on concerts and some attend the choir performances and some goes to watch the boat race or football match. My hubby goes to work! Many people flocked into Torshavn, the capital city where the Olavsøka is held so the only cinema in town will be open throughout the day from 3pm till 3am for both days and days after and days before.

Anyway, thinking about Festival of Saint Olav reminds me of "The Golden Girls". One of the characters was Rose. She used to talk non-stop about Saint Olav, where she originate in the TV series. So I wonder if this is where they got the idea from?? You never know.

4year old

We celebrated Jana Maria's fourth birthday on 20th July at 2pm. I baked 42 hot buns, baked sausage rolls and chicken nuggets from 11am. So not so bad for a last minute preparation. We ordered a fresh cream cake in a shape of a ship since Jana Maria is currently obsessed with ship and boat. However, when we went at 1:45pm to pick it up, the baker had made a mistake. He make a normal round cake instead of the shape that we paid for. So we were given an option either to take that and get our money back (345kroner) or wait for another 3hours before he can finished the ship. We took the obvious ofcourse. How can we wait 3hours for the birthday cake when the party started at 2pm??
All in all, I think Jana Maria had a fun and happy day as there were lots of children and all the person she asked to be present turn up. She phone them the day before and invite them all by herself. I just do the dialing.
Number of kids present were 17 and adults were 12

The reason why I am able to carry out the birthday was because Danial was taken care of by the careworker from 11am to 5pm and then pick up by the respite family for 2 nights of rest for me.

Captain Jack Sparrow

I went to watch "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" on monday with birgit. Before that we had buffet dinner at the one and only chinese Restaurant here called "Nantong". It was okay for me but I should have called first I guess. Their buffet consist of 5 ways to cook chicken meat and one way for prawns. I am allergic to seafood so I have to stick to the chicken. What a waste of my 155kroner(thats around 44SGD).
Anyway, the movie was so hilarious. I was laughing till my eyes go teary. It was so funny. Especially when Captain Jack Sparrow become a "fruit satay" swinging for his dear life.

First of all............my heartfelt condolence to Maggie for her recent loss of her father. I am sorry to hear that.

Then come the rest.

World Cup is over. Okay, I am not happy with the result as I wanted France to win over Italy. I wasn't happy when Portugal win over England but I was glad when they lose in semi-final.

Dánial is offered a temporary solution now with the care-worker problem. I think it will be alright soon. I am still not too sure myself who is who and what is what. Currently, there is a care-worker from 11am to 5pm in the school for special needs. But these handicapped children are only allowed there now because it is school holiday. They will have no place again after 7th August. Wonder where he will be then. As for the night time care worker, we were given a young and kind girl but only for 9days and then she will resigned. She will be replaced by someone else for another 9days. Then after that, another elderly lady will take over for undetermined amount of time. So we will only be left with the problem of who will have him in the day time in August??

Anyway, I have been walking daily for the past 2 weeks with my other 2 children. It improves my stamina but it put extra strain on my worn-out joints. I will update again more later this week. Now got to prepare them for bedtime.
