night shift

As soon as I came back from Denmark, I have been working.

Was on night shift yesterday and what a weird night it has been. As soon as I reached the ICU, a toddler with suspected meningitis was waiting. Then another allergy case with query respiratory distress coming in. By then we are full house. So after a lumbar puncture, the child was sent off to pædiatric unit to create way for another case of drug overdose. Right after we settle this case, another admission. Young patient with suspected basal fracture, fall from 2metre height. I really hate drunk people!!
Offcourse the patient ran off 10mins before you pass report to the morning shift!!
We didn't ran after her as the CT scan shows no fracture or internal bleeding. Can't hold them against their will anyway. Besides can't afford the staffing to hold her down. We need 4 person to block her and calm her down the whole time.

Anyway.......good news is..........on thursday, I got a call to offer me a permanent position in the ICU....Hip Hip Hurray!!!

I'm insomniac now

What a day it has been. I did not plan on working for so long but what to do when there is lack of staff and patient keep coming in??

On friday I work from 3pm-11pm followed by saturday from 7am-7pm. I managed to arrange for someone to come in from 7pm till 7am the next day.
Then on sunday, I went to wrk again from 7am till 7pm but it went on for another 12hours from 7pm-7am again. So I have work of total of 44hours just from friday to sunday. I have been working total of 24hours before that on monday and tuesday.
So this week, I work a total of 68hours.

I'm beat now. Just reach home from work, going to sleep for at least6 hours I hope.
